Welcome to the Spotlight page where we are featuring those who have helped save the rainforest or the orangutans!

Allison, age 9, has put a lot of work into saving the orangutan. She has been working for 2 years.  Last year on "Peace Day" (07-07-07) she went to a nearby park and handed out fliers to about 50 people explaining about palm oil and why it is bad. Her mom made her an orangutan costume for Halloween and she went trick-or-treating but instead of getting candy she passed out fliers about palm oil. She started a Roots and Shoots group at her school and educated them about orangutans and palm oil and about the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. She encouraged the afterschool club at her school to write letters to companies that destroyed the rainforest. She also invented "Borneo Bob," a flat orangutan that travels the world and informs people about orangutans. He has been sent to over 250 schools. Allison designed him, helped write the letter about him and address and mail all of the envelopes. They asked kids to take their challenge, do something good for the rainforest, and then pass Borneo Bob onto someone else and encourage them to take the challenge. She also created a video for a PTA contest which had a theme of "I can make a difference by..." She created a video about how orangutans would feel if they knew what palm oil was being used for. She won first at her school and district level and won an award of merit at the state level. Allison, congratulations on all the fine work you've done, the orangutans must appreciate it!
